Working to improve the social, emotional, mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in Cornwall
For professionals

This dynamic, easy‑to‑navigate document is designed as a support guide for all professionals working with children, young people and their families. It reflects the relationship‑based, trauma‑informed model that continues to sit at the heart of our practice. It serves as a reminder to staff to consider not only those already known to be vulnerable, but also those who may have become vulnerable as a result of ongoing changes in their protective factors and circumstances in the years following the COVID‑19 pandemic.

This resource emphasises the power of listening with empathy and without judgment; of enquiring about emerging needs and worries; of validating people’s experiences and feelings; of enhancing their sense of safety; and of connecting them with appropriate support. These actions remain central to safeguarding children, young people and their families, and to preventing the escalation of risk.

We continue to have a real opportunity to work collaboratively with partners and alongside families, bringing hope, stability and support as we navigate new challenges and transitions together. By empowering children, young people and families to find their voices, share their stories and access the help they need, we can strengthen resilience and promote positive outcomes in 2026 and beyond.
