Working to improve the social, emotional, mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in Cornwall

Cornwall Schools’ Wellbeing Hub Newsletter 12th September 2025

Friday 12th September 2025

Welcome to the Wellbeing Newsletter

We hope you and your colleagues had a restful and restorative Summer. Our very best wishes for the new term and new year ahead.

There was quite a lot to come back to including the release of the Ofsted Framework / Toolkits. As ever we jump to the sections that directly link to pupil wellbeing (the phrase ‘staff wellbeing’ could not be found in a search of the toolkit pdf – interesting as it appears that these changes have done nothing to ally the stress and anxiety around inspections we’ve seen in recent years).

In checking out the areas of personal development and wellbeing / attendance and behaviour, the phrase that came to mind was ‘a bit of a curate’s egg’… Yes, all the right things were there but some of the language used felt weak and woolly in places. Good to see safety, relational practice and belonging mentioned (albeit in briefly). And there is consistency with the newly published RSHE guidelines.

The Headstart offer for schools (alongside that of our colleagues in the council and partners beyond) is geared to supporting these areas and remains freely available to all schools.

Headstart Comms

We sometimes hear that people don’t realise:

a) that Headstart is still here

b) the extent of our offer

So we have refreshed our comms tools and resources which can be found on our website.

A focus on Belonging on the HSK website:

As part of the refresh, we will feature an area of one of the websites in the newsletter each week.

Recently we have been thinking a lot about belonging. Which, alongside felt safety and relational practice in schools, is one of the foundations to wellbeing, attendance and readiness to learn.
